UBS, JP Morgan and Rothschild have secured advisory roles on the proposed $23bn merger of Russian telecoms operator Vimpelecom and Ukraine’s Kvyivstar.
A source close to the deal indicated that JP Morgan and Rothschild are advising Telenor. Swiss bank UBS is advising Vimpelcom while Altimo, the telecoms arm of Alfa Group, is advising itself.
Telenor is being further represented by Peter O’Driscoll of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Altimo is being represented by Vladimir Lechtman and Ted Kamman of Jones Day. VimpelCom is being represented by its general counsel, Jeffrey McGhie, and by Dan Walsh (London) and Patrick Dooley (New York) of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
The deal resolving a protracted legal dispute between Telenor and Alfa would merge Vimpelcom, Russia’s number two mobile operator, with Ukraine’s Kyivstar to create a new New York-listed entity worth more than $23bn.
