Troika Dialog has ousted rival Renaissance Capital from the top position as leading brokerage firm, according to the results of the Thomson Reuters Extel Survey 2009.
A spokeswoman for Troika told EmergingMarkets.me that it was the first time the investment bank had won the main research award for a number of years.
Troika clinched the top brokerage firm award ahead of Deutsche Bank UFG with Renaissance relegated to third place. Senior Troika analyst Michael Stiskin also claimed the leading Russian analyst gong, ahead of UralSib's Chris Weafer and colleague Oleg Maximov in third place.
Troika had four analysts ranked in the top ten. Rencap's best placed analyst was Alex Kazbegi in 17th position while his colleague Roland Nash come in at 20th.
In March this year, the US magazine Institutional Investor placed Rencap first in its annual survey of emerging market research houses. Troika polled second.
Troika is believed to have the largest research team covering the Russian and CIS capital markets. In Russia, it has 35 analysts while Renaissance Capital had 30. Paolo Zaniboni, the head of Troika's research team, was recently promoted to head its UK business in London. He retains control of research.
